1914 Joe Mercer, OBE, was born in Ellesmere Port, Chesire, England. He was MCFC manager from 1965 to 1971 and led the club to one league championship, one fa-cup, one league-cup and one Eurpean cup-winners-cup. During his 340 games in charge of the team the had a win % of 43.82. In 1974 he was caretaker manager of the English national team leading them through 7 games, losing only once.
