Back to the action this weekend as we have Wigan visiting and look to continue our positive start to the campaign.
We have opinion tonight on Mancini’s defensive tactics or maybe defensive tactics for Mancini, together with the usual requests.
Next Game: Wigan Athletic, home, 3pm Saturday 10 September 2011OPINION: MANCINI’S DEFENCE I
I read Chris Cobb’s and Keith Sharp’s letters several times looking for some concealed humour or irony. But no, they really were complaining that Mancini was too defensive in our 5-1 victory at Spurs! Are these guys living in some sort of fantasy land? A couple of years ago anyone who even dreamed of a result like that would have been told they needed their head examined.
Twelve goals in the first three league games is actually rather good. Perhaps Messrs Cobb and Sharp miss the good old Mark Hughes days, when we would also have let in 12 goals and be sitting mid-table with 3 points, instead of at the top with 9. As it stands, we let in 3 goals and, as far as I’m concerned, that is 3 too many, as all of them came from poor defensive marking and Mancini was right to be annoyed about Tottenham’s goal after the match. Keep up the good work, Roberto!
John Caley <john(at)caley.net>OPINION: MANCINI’S DEFENCE II
Further to the pieces by Keith Sharp and Chris Cobb, I’d like to suggest an alternative way to look at Rob’s substitution policy against Spurs.
May I suggest he was giving players time on the pitch, especially Savic who needs to get used to pace of Premier League? Oh, and are we really complaining after a 5-1 away win? How times have changed. Anyone recall the 10 home games under Psycho when we didn’t score a goal?
Barry Tench <btench27(at)btinternet.com>REQUEST: FULHAM AWAY TICKET
I am looking for some Fulham away tickets. Ideally after a pair together, but will consider a single or even three.
Can meet to exchange cash/tickets anywhere in the Manchester area or down in London next weekend.
Thanks, Matthew Maxey <matthewmaxey(at)hotmail.com>REQUEST: KING OF THE KIPPAX
We are pleased to announce that King of the Kippax fanzine number 190 should hit the outlet at Aleef (corner of Cross Street and Market Street) on Friday afternoon (Sept 9th) and the streets at the Wigan and subsequent games.
It’s a 48 A4 page issue with a front cover showing the Etihad City plane and a crafty caption: They came, they saw, they sponsored.
It sells at just £2.50 and can also be purchased for £3.50 from (cheques to) King Of The Kippax, 25, Holdenbrook Close, Leigh, Lancs, WN7 2HL.
This issue contains a review of Lakey’s new book, preview/advert of the forthcoming Us and Them book (City vs. every other team), Début days, goodbye to SWP, comings and goings, City in Europe, City finances, match previews and reviews, cartoons, pics, and comment on all things Blue, and we’re with Phil Banerjee 100% here – the odd pop at the dirty, filthy, despicable, nasty Rags.
Thanks to all at MCIVTA for all the issues over the years and the sterling work Heidi and company have put in over this period, and the excellent debate and comment; long may it continue.
