One does hope that we have learned from the Sevilla match in determining the right shape and the right balance for big matches when we have Silva injured. Ya Ya made both the goals but does leave midfield light if he plays there as part of a two man central formation. Surely the solution is obvious in Merlin’s absence…..play with one striker with Ya Ya in the hole behind and with a two man central midfield consisting of more defensive minded players such as Fernando and Fernandinhio. Ya Ya would have attacking support from two wider players such as de Breune and either Sterling or Navas.
Thus our shape would be 4-2-3-1 and would allow our natural attacking instinct to prevail without exposing our defence to the extent they were against Sevilla and Tottenham. It’s not rocket science just obvious logic……..or do you know better?
