Newsletter #119

We’ve some opinion on the dire performances of late and gloomy (generally) predictions for the rest of the season. I hope they are wrong and that Bally can do something with the squad. We’ve also a Why Blue but we could do with some more if anyone fancies a bash.

The main news, from my point of view, is what will be happening to MCIVTA, see below.

Lastly, I was struck how nothing ever changes; perusing the recently announced England team, the first thing that smacked me in the face was the absence of the one player that everybody and his cousin would write down first on their team sheet! Yes, you’ve guessed it, Matt Le Tissier is not even in the squad! Well, I guess it wouldn’t really be an England team if we played the most gifted player in the land would it? Well, at least he’s in good company … Frank Worthington, Keith Osgood, Duncan McKenzie, Rodney Marsh, Tony Currie, Stanley Matthews, expand at your leisure!

Next game, Everton at home, Wednesday 30th September 1995

MCIVTA – THE FUTURE … CONTINUED!

The Current Situation

After looking at all the options open to us to continue with MCIVTA in its present format, by far and away the most attractive is some kind of sponsorship. The main stumbling block at the moment is that sponsorship takes time to put in place and we need something sooner rather than later. Before anyone lambasts me for failing to forsee the inevitable need for change, I actually foresaw it several months ago and initiated my own approach for sponsorship. Something may indeed come of this but the time frame problem remains: it probably wouldn’t be before Xmas.

So, I am faced with setting up an evening operation but can’t really afford the significant outlay needed to do this. So far I’ve received many letters acknowledging the situation and the necessity of avoiding an automailer solution, and all without exception support the idea of making an appeal for ‘kit’ for the newsletter.

I must confess to being a little uneasy with this! Firstly, on principle I believe MCIVTA should be free to all and should not to be subscription-based (an impossibility to enforce anyway). To assauge any guilt feelings I might have, I would like to use the euphemism of ‘an appeal’ which gets round the subscriptions principle… semantics I know! Any money coming in would be used to set up MCIVTA at home and get us over this hill to the green land beyond! This should give us the breathing space to get the sponsorship which would guarantee MCIVTA in its present form without the need for any more appeals.

What will MCIVTA be like?

The impending changes will not just be to the hardware and my location but will also affect the newsletter itself. The majority of people will need (because of their internet connection) to read MCIVTA at their place of work/study and many submissions will also need to be typed up and sent during working hours. This means that the weekend match reports will be read by me on Monday evening if all goes well, can be compiled and sent out later that same evening for consumption on Tuesday. Similarly, I would need to compile the ‘end of the week’ edition on Thursday evening at the latest for consumption on Friday. Thus, team news would be left out as it wouldn’t be available and we’d have to rely on the WWW for that information. I would envisage 2 editions a week, with maybe an extra one appearing Wednesday or Thursday depending on demand. Other than that, it would hopefully still be the same old MCIVTA.

An appeal:

As explained above, I feel that it’s of paramount importance that this is seen as a donation to help us all and not a subscription. Therefore, if you can help out then send whatever you personally can spare or whatever you think MCIVTA is worth to you; if you can’t or don’t want to contribute then that’s also fine, you’ll still get MCIVTA!

To contribute to the DALEK Fund (thanks John, see below) email me and I’ll give you the address for donations via snail-mail. And… no, it’s not in Liechtenstein or offshore 😎
