Former City and England full-back Bert Sproston has died at the age of 84. The Sandbach-born Sproston began his league career with Leeds before moving on to Spurs, from whom he joined City for £10,000 in November 1938. He played for the Blues either side of the Second World War, and went on to make a total of 134 appearances for City, scoring five goals, before ending his league career at the age of 34. Sproston gained eleven England caps in his career, the last with City.
