Newsletter #1890
|
Quality over quantity today ahead of our match this evening against relegation-scraping Villa. Just a couple of articles to read. One a rather timely piece of perspective from Steve O, the other a call to arms for the forthcoming Issue 1894.
Your ideas would be welcome on how we could make that issue, the same number as the year Manchester City were born in their modern format if you were wondering, special.
Enjoy the game this evening and looking forward to your thoughts and comments as ever.
Next Game: Aston Villa, Villa Park, 4 March 2013, 20.00FEELING A LITTLE BETTER?
Well we are no closer to ‘that lot’ but nevertheless…
This is the poser put to us by Phil the Ed atop the last issue.
Well, from my perspective, the answer has to be a resounding yes! Simply because I’ve given up looking above, and am now looking over our shoulder. Given our recent form and Chelsea’s preference for away matches I was convinced beforehand that we were going to be looking at a one point lead over them and seriously in danger of being in a scramble for top four (I still am to a degree but not nearly so acutely as I might have been).
To take a more philosophical approach, if any one of us were to be told, back at Christmas ’98, that at the turn of Feb/Mar ’13 we would be reigning Premier League Champions; we’d hold the Community Shield; we’d be into the last eight of the FA Cup, with – and I desperately hope not to be putting a hex on us here – what on the face of it looks like an excellent opportunity to get to the semis; and we’d still be in the runners-up position in the Premier League with a five points cushion, and then they asked us how we’d have felt about it, I think we’d consider plastic surgery as being the only option for ear-to-ear grin removal.
One other reason to feel better is that by having all of it put to bed regarding top spot so early this season I’m sleeping infinitely better than I was in the latter stages of last campaign.
Steve O’BrienAND FINALLY…
Can we make sure issue number 1894 is a special one?
