Why Blue?

I grew up near Bury and watched them all the time, though I was a City fan, I couldn’t get to M/C unless visiting my Nan in Chorlton on Medlock. I played at schoolboy level for Prestwich, Whitefield and Radcliffe, and my school, Whitefield Secondary Modern. I joined the Junior Army and played for the army. My parents emigrated to Oz, I followed, and went to Vietnam; believe it or not I played for the Australian Army, against the US, Canada, South Korea, Phillipines and New Zealand. I was one of four Manchester born players in the team. War is Hell!!

At 22 I returned for trials with the Blues but was too old?, well maybe not good enough then! I eventually signed pro in Hong Kong.

I should add that my mother (here in Oz) and my brother in Blackpool are also 100% Blue. My father also was sought and trialed with City in the late forties; mum wouldn’t let him play professionally! I never let him forget this.
