Murtaz proved to be a big asset to the City-defence sfter he was signed from Alania Vladikavkaz in 1997. His consistant no-nonsense play soon made him a crowd favourite, and his distribution was wise, if not elegant. He often looked for his fellow countryman Georgi Kinkladze, and that was just what the fans wanted.
It was therefore a blow to the struggeling side when Murtaz picked up a knee injury in march 1997, that sidelined him for the rest of the season. This meant a long vacation from football, and a not so happy bonus - relegation to 2nd division.
Shelia got a bad injury during Citys second division campaign, and with the manager showing no interest in the Georgian defender he was to be released from his contract during that season.
