Mark Kennedy showed his skills at Millwall with 4 goals in 13 games at the young age of 18. He was signed by Liverpool which made him a regular international for the Republic of Eire. Life at Anfield was hard and to compare with stars like MacManaman and Berger on the left side was not easy. Mark got only 18 games in his two years with the Reds.

Wimbledon made a move for the youngster at the end of the 1997/98 season, but the playing style of "the Crazy gang" does not always benefit wingers, and when new management came in at the London club, Kennedy was again on the move.

Joe Royle tried to get Mark on loan during the 2nd division campaign, but City had to wait until promotion to secure his signature. Mark cost City £1 million, which could rise to £1.5 million depending on appearances. With Kennedy on the left and Cooke on the right, Royle hopes that City will again play attractive football, and compete at the top of the table.

When City was relegated to first division in 2001, and Kevin Keegan took over as manager, Mark was sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
