Garry was the driving force behind City's midfield and some time an integral part of the England Under-21 set-up. Playing alongside experienced men like Peter Reid and Steve McMahon early in his career, has made him a more consistent player, and together with Uwe Rosler he was one of the biggest successes of City's difficult 94-95 season. Garry is a versatile fotballer, able to play both in defence and midfield, and having his fair share of goals.

In his last few seasons with the blues, concurrent with City's poor league form, Garry's own progress stalled somewhat. After turning down a few offers for the home-bred footballer, City accepted a £3.2 mill. bid from Blackburn in March 1996, making him the most expencive player to leave Maine Road at that time. Hopefully this move will prove to be the right choice both for the club and player. In fact if City had been doing better, there's no doubt that Garry would be considered as one of the finest midfielders in the business. A fact that might have doubled his value, and boosted his international career further.
