REQUEST: BLUES VIEWING IN BIRMINGHAM

I am off to Birmingham for the weekend and was wondering if there are any Blues that meet up in a pub in the city area / or close to the city, to watch City games?

REQUEST: BLUES IN BRISBANE

We are attempting to set up an official supporters’ club branch here in Brisbane, Australia. We would like to invite as many ex-pat and Australian born Blues in Queensland and the northern rivers area of NSW to come along and share the experience with us or simply be a member from afar (it’s a huge area).

Could any Blues that are interested make contact with us for further information? Additionally if there are any other overseas branches that could provide advice we would always welcome the voice of experience.

Our contact details are: Rob Matthews 0414 742452 or Eric Fitton 0413 140062, email addresses below.

REQUEST: CITY TUNES

My name’s Chris, and I’m the author of One Ginger Pele, a collection of football’s funniest songs and chants (http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Ginger-Pele-Footballs-Funniest/dp/1847732526).

You may remember I contacted you a couple of years ago asking if your club had any good ones. The response from fans across the country was simply fantastic, and when the book was published by New Holland Ltd in September 2008, it got loads of great reviews, and became a Christmas best-seller. And I couldn’t have done it without fans like you.

That’s why now with One Ginger Pele II in the pipeline I’m getting in touch again. Because I’m out to prove once again that, when it comes to humorous, satirical, offensive and downright funny songs, British football fans just can’t be beat.

So if you’ve got any quality chants or songs from your club (or others you’ve found funny), I’d love to hear from you. As with book one, I’m not really after your basic “We’re by far the greatest team” chants, but the ones that really make you chuckle. Especially those spontaneous ones that come up during a game (responses to opposition fans, bad decisions by the ref, players in the news etc.). Any background info on the songs (like the tune they’re sung to) would be great too. I’ll consider anything you send (the only criteria is that they’re really funny!) and all the ones that make it into the book will be acknowledged at the end.

Thanks in advance for your support.

REQUEST: NEW BOOK

Once in a Blue Moon – Life, Love and Manchester City To be published September 2010 at £8.99 paperback original 978-0-7524-5621-8

‘1979 was also the year my sister Julie tied the knot at the tender age of 19. My mum was up in arms, repeatedly telling Julie that she was way too young and that she was throwing away her life. I was with my mum on this one; I didn’t want them to get married either. It meant me missing the Tottenham away game on 1 September, which ruined another complete season, as it turned out to be the only game I missed. We lost 2-1.’

Once in a Blue Moon chronicles Steve Worthington’s childhood in a 1960s working class Manchester suburb, his awakening to the Blue side of Manchester and his lifelong passion for the club. More than ‘just another football book’, it is an odyssey charting five decades of Manchester’s football, music and people; written with genuine wit and warmth by someone who was actually there.

This is not a self-indulgent biography but a humorous and heartfelt story about life in Manchester. It is a must-read for any football fan, social historian or anyone with a genuine interest in life ‘up North’.

Enjoy…

  • The many trials and tribulations of supporting Man City, ‘a club for cock-ups’that still hasn’t won a trophy since 1976!
  • A wide range of hilarious stories and anecdotes that will bring tears to your eyes in more ways than one.
  • A first hand view of Sunday League football and its total lack of comparison to the professional game.
  • Comical accounts of following England through thick and thin.
  • A philosophical and pragmatic view of life’s ups and downs.
  • 38 story related colour pictures.

Steve Worthington is an everyday bloke with a talent for finding humour in everything he encounters. He is a well-respected fanzine writer with a vast experience of the game in all its guises. This book is a one-off wonder, but don’t just take our word for it…
