Newsletter #1562

A short issue tonight on this last bank holiday weekend of the year. City emerged victors at Fratton Park on Sunday giving us three wins and three clean sheets in the new campaign.

We have opinion tonight on Dunne’s departure for Villa, problems with the City website, a fellow Blue not happy with the mischief making and testimonial issues.

Next Game: Arsenal, home, 3pm Saturday 12 September

OPINION: DUNNE CITY HERO BEST OF LUCK

As Dunne heads to pastures new, I think all City fans should raise their glasses and toast a hero of the City faithful since his arrival in 2000. Player of the Year 4 times, he was found of his red card but never let the team down.

He has been solid as a rock through many difficult seasons including relegation and managerial changes and always a gentlemen. During last season his Premier League performances were not on a par with his International performances and this is perhaps a factor of some unpublicized lack of understanding or agreement with Hughes and perhaps a search on his part for new pastures.

As a City and Ireland fan I wish him the best of luck with Villa. I think Martin O’Neill will invigorate him again and I do not doubt we will be wringing our hands over the coming seasons as he astounds us with even better defensive performances. However, his City tank was empty and had to be filled in nearby Birmingham. Silvinho will bring a maturity to the backline but I still think it as the transfer window closes we will still be lacking in that department for another season.

Best of luck Richard, I hope the City fans will always give you a cheer when you come out in the Claret and Blue instead of the City Blue (at least for one season).

OPINION: MATCHDAY CENTRE ISSUES

Is anybody else trying to listen to the games live, using the Match Day Centre link from the MCFC home page? I can’t get the link to work; sometimes I hear a recording of a crowd for a couple of seconds, but nothing more.

It did work on one occasion, I was able to listen to the game against Wolves, but in all other cases, the link hasn’t worked, and I notice too, when I click on other links on that page, they too seem to be broken. All seems to be ok at other times, i.e. non-match days, when the Match Day Centre link isn’t available.

OPINION: MISCHIEF MAKING

Phil Banerjee you wrote a great article the other month about Sir Bobby Robson, so good in fact I forwarded a copy on to a chap I know at the local FA office; he thought it was a great piece too. I then read your recent article about giving people the wrong directions. I can only imagine that you never go anywhere otherwise you would know that this is pretty poor and ask yourself this would Sir Bobby Robson have done that? You really need to try travelling into many of our towns and cities where most of the signs etc. are missing. I drive around 40,000 miles a year and could write a book on the roads network.

An article here on nothing at all to do with football Phil, but neither is giving out the wrong directions.

REQUEST: WEAVER TESTIMONIAL

If you think Nicky Weaver deserves a testimonial at City for his 10 years service, then please click the link below and sign.

I am led to believe by a source close to Nick that he was denied the testimonial by the spite of one individual who is no longer at the club. He was told that he would have a testimonial, but like all the promises made by this one person, it was reneged.
