Newsletter #1360

Tonight we have interesting news from our intrepid Stateside reporter on Bojinov’s injury, more on the legend issue and the usual requests.

Finally, apologies from Don as we have no news summary tonight due to a family bereavement. Thoughts with you and your family Don.

Next Game: Sunday 16 September 2007, 4pm, Aston Villa (home)

OPINION: BOJINOV UPDATE

I have some good news about Bojinov. On Tuesday afternoon I called the chap who operated on Bojinov. I posted a summary at the Manchester Evening News, and on my own blog right away, but I wanted to pass it along to you. I have been rather frustrated by the lack of information about this entire matter, so, back on August 20th I did a little digging and came up with the name of the surgeon (along with his past successes, qualifications and so on) who would try to save Bojinov’s career. Many will have read a putative report from a couple of days ago about Bojinov being back by Christmas; this report involved a few words from SGE. I could not track down where this report originated, so I decided to go straight to the only truly reliable source. This is what I posted on the MEN and my own blog.

I just got off the phone with Dr Paulo Mariani, the chap who operated on Bob-a-job. If you know my blog, and my posts on Bob-a-job, the number on the University of Rome website is the wrong number: when I called it I got some professor of genetics, who gave me the right extension, so I called that instead.

I’ll summarize the conversation with Professor Mariani:

The surgery went well, the prognosis is complete recovery. I asked (given my own experience) whether the knee would be stronger after than before. He said it is a good possibility and “I cross my fingers” as scar tissue is often tougher than the original tissue. I asked him what the injury was precisely, he said “complete rupture of the ACL with damage to the post-lateral corner”, which he said was “a bad combination usually”. He told me he (Bojinov) was doing basic therapy in “his apartment”, that next week he will be doing “flexwork” and the week after “running”.

So there you go.

OPINION: DUE RESPECT I

I have to disagree with Jim Heaviside in MCIVTA 1359. Mr Tueart was a gentleman and did lots for the fans at the supporters’ clubs. I think that this man deserves some respect. Perhaps he did make some mistakes but he doesn’t deserve to be treated like a pariah in MCIVTA and I’m sure I am not alone in this.

Oh and he did score a great goal didn’t he? He and Peter Barnes influenced my choice of e mail address hehehe.

I’m sure he will buy tickets eventually and enjoy his love of MCFC once again. This new City has great potential, don’t you think?

Come on you Blues! (to quote Ernie)

OPINION: DUE RESPECT II

Just writing in response to Jim Heaviside calling Dennis Tueart a Thug and some kind of parasite. As with many others, I agree he should not necessarily have aired his grievances in public, but the resounding criticism he has taken seems very unfair.

As an 8 year old I was mesmerised by Dennis Tueart’s goal in the 76 Final (and subsequent many goals for City). Ironically, I had a very influential uncle who had tried desperately to make me a Sunderland fan, and Dennis Tueart had been a swaying factor in that too! Soon after that final in 1976 my two mates and I were given his address in Sale (by Tony Book’s son) and off we trotted to his house on a Sunday afternoon. Fortunately he was outside washing his car, and he stopped, sat on the bumper and chatted to us for what seemed an age. After signing some autographs he bade us farewell and whenever he saw us after that always said hello.

I’m not sure why you want to call him a thug, but this to me was a good footballer, a City supporter and a very kind and polite guy. If he wants to borrow my ticket, he can do!

REQUEST: PHUKET BLUES VIEWING

I’m going to be in Phuket for the Villa game on 16 September, likely either in Phuket town or Patong. Are there any Blues there who’ll be getting together for the game, or who know where I can go to watch it?

REQUEST: CITY SITES

Does anyone have details of any decent City related websites for unofficial news (aside from this fine one of course)? I’ve been trawling around the net, if that’s the right phrase, and found one or two that used to be OK are now either full of pompous self righteous asses or moving towards the celebration of hooliganism and Munich chanting, which is most definitely not what we want associated with our club, and this from one which claims to have very close relationships and influence with senior officials at the club!
